Afghanistan won by 69 runs. Yes, you read it right. Who has thought that the defending champion and gutsy England would lose to Afghanistan? Afghanistan's spin trio had England bound in their spin magic. Batting first, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran gave a fabulous start.
Although they lost the next few wickets quickly, Ikram Alikhil built brilliant partnerships down the order and helped his team put 284 on the board. England lost Bairstow and Joe Root early while chasing. Harry Brook tried to keep the scoreboard ticking, but no other batter stood with him, resulting in their first loss in the tournament.
